Complete orientation participation is required for all new degree-seeking undergraduate (first-year and transfer) students prior to academic advising and course registration. Orientation looks different and occurs at different points of the year based on several factors:
Orientation sessions typically occur on weekdays, because the many offices, faculty/staff members, academic advisors, and other services required to assist students and family members with their college transition are not available on the weekends.
Once a student has been admitted to the University and has decided that FSU is the institution they plan to attend by paying their admission deposit, they should register/pay for their orientation session. Students can do this through the myFSU portal at https://my.fsu.edu.
Orientation sessions are capacity limited by the number of students allowed to attend each session. Space for each orientation session is available on a first-reserve/payment basis. Once an orientation session has filled, it will no longer appear online as a registration option. Orientation session availability is always changing and different for each student based on:
Since session availability is always changing and based on the profile of an individual student, New Student & Family Programs does not provide a list of all orientation sessions via email/phone. To see specific information regarding which session dates are still available for registration, you must log into the orientation registration system through the myFSU portal.
Keep in mind that a reservation in a specific orientation session is not guaranteed without completed payment. (NOTE: All online orientation payments must be made through the orientation registration system). First-year/freshmen students admitted to enter FSU during the summer or fall semester are required to pay a $200 admissions deposit which confirms your intended enrollment before you will have access to orientation session dates and registration.
All First Year Abroad (FYA) and First Semester Abroad (FSA) students are required to attend a mandatory IPre–Depart meeting in Tallahassee on July, 13–14, 2017. If FYA or FSA students get a message from FSU Admissions office to register for the main orientation, please disregard as you will be registering directly with International Programs. The IPre–Depart registration is not handled through the main campus orientation registration process. The meeting is mandatory and will cover everything from academic policy and procedures, academic advising, class registration, packing tips and finances to study center specifics and safety. It will also provide students with the opportunity to meet and form relationships with fellow FYA and FSA participants. Family members are welcome. By attending, you’ll get the information you need before departing on your study abroad experience. When you return to Tallahassee main campus, you will attend the main campus orientation at that time.
If you are an FYA or FSA student you can register for IPre–Depart here.
Students who are a part of the C.A.R.E. program will attend orientation on June 18 – 20, 2017. New Student & Family Programs will register you for this session. CARE Family Orientation is June 17, 2017. Students will receive more information about CARE Family Orientation via e&ndashmail in April.
