Upcoming Fall Opportunities at the OAS!

The Office of Accessibility Services has some incredible opportunities coming up to support you this Fall semester at Florida State University. While some of these opportunities are limited to first year students, some are open to all students regardless of where you are in your studies! We encourage you to take advantage of these ways to engage with the office and support your success here at FSU!

Newsletter

The OAS has a new monthly newsletter! Each month, we'll send you a copy full of information on OAS events and programs, important dates to note, information on accommodations and OAS Policies and Procedures, and tidbits/communication from key campus partners. You'll want to be sure to check out the newsletter each month. We also encourage family members to subscribe to the newsletter by filling out this form

Engage 100 Course

One particular opportunity we would like to highlight is our Engage 100 course, IDS 1107: The Florida State University Experience for OAS Seminoles. The course is a zero-credit class that meets once a week and is focused on helping you develop the success skills necessary in and out of your classes during your first year of studies. Some of the topics we cover include study skills, test-taking, working with faculty, disclosure of your disability/accommodation status, how to get involved on campus, how to balance everything on your plate, etc.

Registration is now open for the Thursday section of the course. The course meets at the OAS at 3:30pm on Thursdays and lasts an hour each week. To register for the course, please fill out this interest form. Once you fill out this form, you will be added manually to the course and will see the course populate within 24 to 48 hours in your myFSU portal. If you have any other questions or want to know more about the course, please reach out to Spencer Scruggs by email or by phone. You can also look through the attached syllabus (not the final for the course). You have until the end of drop/add to request enrollment, but the sooner you do it the better!

OAS AMbassadors Program

The OAS is excited to announce the opening of the second cohort of the OAS Ambassadors program. The goal of the OAS Ambassadors is to raise disability awareness amongst the student population at Florida State. This is carried out by focusing on educational events, outreach, campus wide campaigning, and building a strong social media presence. Additionally, the ambassadors are available to mentor and support any and all students at the OAS. As members of an organization with a focus on diversity and inclusion, student ambassadors are open and accepting of all peoples. Furthermore, as representatives of the Florida State University, all ambassadors are expected to uphold the tenants of The Seminole Creed.

OAS Ambassadors meet once a month and are involved in event planning, tabling opportunities with the OAS, and individual reachout/peer support with students registered with the OAS. Students applying to the program have a minimum 2.5 GPA and completed 2 full semesters of coursework. For more information or questions, please reach out to Spencer Scruggs by email or by phone

To apply for the position, please fill out this form by September 6th at 5pm. Selection and notification will occur the following week, with the first meeting following soon after at the beginning of September. We encourage all students registered with the OAS who meet the qualification above to apply!
